On August 4–5, the province of San Juan will host Argentina Cobre 2025 (“Argentina Copper 2025”), the country’s leading national and international event focused on the development of copper—an increasingly strategic resource in today’s global energy, industrial, and geopolitical context.

Organized by Panorama Minero in partnership with the Government of San Juan, and supported by Argentina’s national government and major industry stakeholders, Argentina Cobre 2025 will bring together key figures from mining, politics, diplomacy, finance, and sustainability. This high-level forum aims to chart a roadmap for turning the country into a reliable and competitive copper supplier for the 21st century.

“Copper is more than just a commodity—it’s a driver of economic and territorial transformation,” said Celeste González, General Director of Panorama Minero. “This event is about laying the groundwork for Argentina to seize its moment with a clear, modern, and federal vision,” she added. “We’re also committed to consolidating San Juan as the copper capital of the region—a province we’ve supported from day one.”

A Strategic Agenda Backed by Government and Industry

The official opening will include a ceremonial welcome featuring governors of key mining provinces, national authorities such as Mining Secretary Luis Lucero, Deputy Chief of Staff José Rolandi, Diego Sucalesca, and international diplomatic voices such as Amador Sánchez Rico of the European Union.

Day one will tackle the sector’s main challenges and opportunities: investment, legal certainty, infrastructure, the RIGI incentive regime, federal governance, and critical minerals diplomacy. Speakers include representatives from McEwen Copper, Glencore, Citi, and Vicuña Corp., along with experts from Benchmark Mineral Intelligence, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), CESCO, and officials from the Argentine and EU governments.

“Argentina has the potential, the resources, and the talent,” the organizers said. “What’s missing is stronger coordination, predictability, and trust. That’s the kind of environment this event is working to build.”

Water, Sustainability, and Technology: Day Two Focus

The second day will shift the focus to long-term themes: sustainability, innovation, and next-generation mining. Key presentations include economist Graciela Chichilnisky—climate change expert and creator of the UN’s Clean Development Mechanism—and Carlos Foxley, president of Chile’s ACADES, on large-scale desalination for mining.

Panels will also explore integration with Chile’s mining sector, legal frameworks for cross-border projects, and the benefits of modularization in remote areas. The agenda features technical sessions, international case studies, and roundtables with organizations such as CAF, AFD, and GWP.

A Public–Private Platform for a New Mining Era

Argentina Cobre 2025 is designed as a strategic platform for collaboration between government, the private sector, the international community, and civil society. With exclusive networking spaces, market insights, and decision-maker meetings, the event seeks to drive a new copper-based mining cycle anchored in sustainability, competitiveness, and regional development.
“The future of copper in this country depends on long-term decisions,” the organizers concluded. “This summit is a key step toward building a modern, professional, and socially grounded mining sector.”
